Upon its release in 1970, the Annapurna Jacket set a new standard for cold-weather insulation. Originally developed for the visionary Annapurna South Face expedition, this iconic jacket offered unparalleled warmth to a generation of mountaineers, explorers and professionals on expeditions to some of the coldest places on Earth.
Today, after 50 years, our oldest mountaineering jacket remains a definitive design in extreme cold-weather wear. Combining our best insulation technology with a design informed by countless high-altitude and polar expeditions, today’s Annapurna is a robust expedition jacket for peaks up to 7000 metres and extended use in the most demanding sub-zero conditions.
To provide the warmth required in freezing temperatures, the Annapurna’s highly insulating 700-fill power duck down is boxed in chambers throughout the body of the jacket. This box-wall construction effectively traps air and retains maximum body heat by providing maximum space for the down-to-loft. A unique double-layer offset baffle construction throughout the arms offers superior insulation and wind resistance while improving climbing, lifting or shovelling mobility. Offset construction also reduces the effects of down migration, which can leave vulnerable areas, such as the elbows, with insufficient insulation, leading to cold spots.
Panels of Polarloft synthetic insulation are layered across the front body, shoulders and lower sleeves, providing increased wind protection and resisting compression from heavy packs and, maintaining maximum heat potential and avoiding Down deterioration over time. The durable DRILITE® Loft outer is windproof and highly water resistant, repelling snow and protecting against the most punishing winds.
Expedition features and details return this jacket to its mountaineering roots and ensure seamless functionality in the most demanding conditions. A pleated halo baffle around the helmet-compatible hood draws the hood close to the face, providing a refuge from the cold without unnecessary bulk, while a neck ruffle traps warm air from the body, sealing in heat and further protecting the neck and head.
A neat, modern fit eliminates unnecessary bulk and ensures complete freedom of movement, while durable moulded zips function in severe weather and are easy to use with gloves on. Two sizeable internal drop pockets allow easy storage and access to gloves or other frequently needed items, while a zipped inner pocket secures necessary electronics or other essentials. Double front chest pockets and lined hand warmer pockets offer further storage options for food, head torches or maps.
nsulation
- 388g (size large) of Duck Down with a minimum content of 90/10 700 fill power provides exceptional insulation with low weight and pack size.
- Insulation is optimized using a baffle by baffle approach to ensure maximum warmth for the weight of down.
- Down sourced through DOWN CODEX© and RDS standards for animal welfare.
- Unique DOWN CODEX© code in each product shows where that batch of down has been sourced from as well as giving precise down content and fill power figures.
